CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Affected by this vulnerability is the function pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot of the component ixgbe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ixgbe: fix pci device refcount leak As the comment of pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot() says, it returns a PCI device with refcount incremented, when finish using it, the caller must decrement the reference count by calling pci_dev_put(). In ixgbe_get_first_secondary_devfn() and ixgbe_x550em_a_has_mii(), pci_dev_put() is called to avoid leak.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-48896 since 08/21/2024. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 249987 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2022-48896), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
