A vulnerability has been found in GNOME Display Manager up to 2.17 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Face Browser Configuration GUI. Format string vulnerability in the host chooser window (gdmchooser) in GNOME Foundation Display Manager (gdm) allows local users to execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in a hostname, which are used in an error dialog.
The bug was discovered 12/14/2006. The weakness was presented 12/15/2006 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at labs.idefense.com.
