Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.4. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function mem_cgroup_from_slab_obj of the component list_lru. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm: list_lru: fix UAF for memory cgroup The mem_cgroup_from_slab_obj() is supposed to be called under rcu lock or cgroup_mutex or others which could prevent returned memcg from being freed. Fix it by adding missing rcu read lock. Found by code inspection. [[email protected]: only grab rcu lock when necessary, per Vlastimil] Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/[email protected]
