A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Blackboard Academic Suite up to 6.3.1.423 (Forum Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the file announcement.pl. The manipulation of the argument context with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Blackboard Learning and Community Portal System in Academic Suite 6.3.1.424, 6.2.3.23, and other versions before 6 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the context parameter to announcement.pl, which is reflected in the resulting page.
The weakness was disclosed 12/18/2005 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ipomonis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-4339 since 12/17/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Upgrading to version 6.3.1.424 eliminates this vulnerability.
