Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.7. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function sockfd_lookup of the component gtp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gtp: fix a potential NULL pointer dereference When sockfd_lookup() fails, gtp_encap_enable_socket() returns a NULL pointer, but its callers only check for error pointers thus miss the NULL pointer case. Fix it by returning an error pointer with the error code carried from sockfd_lookup(). (I found this bug during code inspection.)
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-46677 since 09/11/2024. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
