Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.8. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function wbscl_set_scaler_filter of the component AMD Display. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Skip wbscl_set_scaler_filter if filter is null Callers can pass null in filter (i.e. from returned from the function wbscl_get_filter_coeffs_16p) and a null check is added to ensure that is not the case. This fixes 4 NULL_RETURNS issues reported by Coverity.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-46714 since 09/11/2024. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 208053 (Amazon Linux 2 : kernel (ALASKERNEL-5.15-2024-055)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.4.284, 5.10.226, 5.15.167, 6.1.109, 6.6.50 or 6.10.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
