Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.9. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function raw_copy_to_user/raw_copy_from_user. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: riscv: misaligned: Restrict user access to kernel memory raw_copy_{to,from}_user() do not call access_ok(), so this code allowed userspace to access any virtual memory address.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-46792 since 09/11/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/06/2026).
