Details
A vulnerability was found in Entrust Instant Financial Issuance up to 6.8.x/6.9.0/6.9.1/6.9.2/6.10.0 on Windows. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code in the library DCG.Security.dll of the file WebAPI.cfg.xml. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded key vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-321. The use of a hard-coded cryptographic key significantly increases the possibility that encrypted data may be recovered. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
Entrust Instant Financial Issuance (formerly known as Cardwizard) 6.10.0, 6.9.0, 6.9.1, 6.9.2, and 6.8.x and earlier uses a DLL library (i.e. DCG.Security.dll) with a custom AES encryption process that relies on static hard-coded key values. These keys are not uniquely generated per installation of the software. Combined with the encrypted password that can be obtained from "WebAPI.cfg.xml" in CVE-2024-39341, the decryption is trivial and can lead to privilege escalation on the Windows host.
This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-39342 since 06/24/2024. The exploitation appears to be difficult. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.001.
