A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Squirrelmail Gpg Plugin up to 2.1 (Mail Client Software). This vulnerability affects the function gpg_recv_key. The manipulation of the argument keyserver with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. The G/PGP (GPG) Plugin 2.1 and earlier for Squirrelmail allow remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in (1) the fpr parameter to the deleteKey function in gpg_keyring.php, as called by (a) import_key_file.php, (b) import_key_text.php, and (c) keyring_main.php; and (2) the keyserver parameter to the gpg_recv_key function in gpg_key_functions.php, as called by gpg_options.php. NOTE: this issue may overlap CVE-2007-3636.
The weakness was presented 07/11/2007 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1924 since 06/08/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
