A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in IBM Lotus Notes (Groupware Software). This issue affects an unknown code in the library kvarcve.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in kvarcve.dll in Autonomy (formerly Verity) KeyView SDK before 9.2.0, as used in Lotus Notes 6.5.4 and 7.0, allows remote attackers to delete arbitrary files via a (1) ZIP, (2) UUE or (3) TAR archive that contains a .. (dot dot) in the filename, which is not properly handled when generating a preview.

The bug was discovered 02/10/2006. The weakness was disclosed 02/10/2006 by Tan Chew Keong and Carsten Eiram (Website). The advisory is shared at www-1.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-2619 since 08/17/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
