Linux Kernel up to 6.10.9 hns3 tnl_num out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.9. Affected by this issue is the function tnl_num of the component hns3. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: hns3: void array out of bound when loop tnl_num When query reg inf of SSU, it loops tnl_num times. However, tnl_num comes from hardware and the length of array is a fixed value. To void array out of bound, make sure the loop time is not greater than the length of array

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-46833 since 09/11/2024. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 212625 (EulerOS 2.0 SP12 : kernel (EulerOS-SA-2024-2953)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
