Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Cisco Unified Computing System. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Redfish API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability in the Redfish API of Cisco UCS B-Series, Cisco UCS Managed C-Series, and Cisco UCS X-Series Servers could allow an authenticated, remote attacker with administrative privileges to perform command injection attacks on an affected system and elevate privileges to root. This vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation. An attacker with administrative privileges could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted commands through the Redfish API on an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to elevate privileges to root.
The advisory is available at sec.cloudapps.cisco.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-20365 since 11/08/2023. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
