Summary
A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.49/6.10.8. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component stm32. Performing a manipulation results in recursion. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-47658. No exploit is available. You should upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.49/6.10.8. This affects some unknown functionality of the component stm32. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a recursion vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-674. The product does not properly control the amount of recursion that takes place, consuming excessive resources, such as allocated memory or the program stack. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: stm32/cryp - call finalize with bh disabled The finalize operation in interrupt mode produce a produces a spinlock recursion warning. The reason is the fact that BH must be disabled during this process.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-47658 since 09/30/2024. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 210940 (openSUSE 15 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2024:3984-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.6.50 or 6.10.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d93a2f86b0a9/5d734665cd5d/56ddb9aa3b32 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
