kernfs_xread in kernfs_vnops.c in NetBSD before 20050831 does not check for a negative offset when reading the message buffer, which allows local users to read arbitrary kernel memory.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2005 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mail-index.netbsd.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-4783 since 04/13/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
