Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.112/6.6.53/6.10.12/6.11.1. Affected by this issue is the function ib_unregister_device of the component RDMA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hns: Fix Use-After-Free of rsv_qp on HIP08 Currently rsv_qp is freed before ib_unregister_device() is called on HIP08. During the time interval, users can still dereg MR and rsv_qp will be used in this process, leading to a UAF. Move the release of rsv_qp after calling ib_unregister_device() to fix it.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-47750 since 09/30/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/19/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 213470 (Debian dla-4008 : linux-config-6.1 - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.113, 6.6.54, 6.10.13 or 6.11.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2ccf1c75d399/d2d9c5127122/dac2723d8bfa/60595923371c/fd8489294dd2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (213470) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2024-3251). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
