Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.13/6.11.2. Affected by this issue is the function dump_mapping of the component HugeTLB Page Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Since dump_mapping() only needs to dump the filename only, retrieve it by itself in a safer way to prevent an unnecessary crash. Note that either retrieving the filename with '%pd' or strncpy_from_kernel_nofault(), the filename could be unreliable.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-49934 since 10/21/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy.
