A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Outlook Express Book Control (Mail Client Software) (affected version not known). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Address Book. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The Outlook Express Address Book control, when using Internet Explorer 6, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL dereference and browser crash) by creating the OutlookExpress.AddressBook COM object, which is not intended for use within Internet Explorer.
The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2006 by Hdm (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-4840 since 06/07/2007.
