Details
A vulnerability was found in Synacor Zimbra Collaboration Suite up to 8.8.15 Patch 45/9.0.0 Patch 40/10.0.8/10.1.0. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block of the component HTTP Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in Zimbra Collaboration (ZCS) 10.1.x before 10.1.1, 10.0.x before 10.0.9, 9.0.0 before Patch 41, and 8.8.15 before Patch 46. It allows authenticated users to exploit Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) due to improper input sanitization and misconfigured domain whitelisting. This issue permits unauthorized HTTP requests to be sent to internal services, which can lead to Remote Code Execution (RCE) by chaining Command Injection within the internal service. When combined with existing XSS vulnerabilities, this SSRF issue can further facilitate Remote Code Execution (RCE).
The advisory is shared at wiki.zimbra.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-45518 since 09/01/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
Upgrading to version 8.8.15 Patch 46, 9.0.0 Patch 41, 10.0.9 or 10.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
