Linux Kernel up to 2.6.15 information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 2.6.15 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

dm-crypt in Linux kernel 2.6.15 and earlier does not clear a structure before it is freed, which leads to a memory disclosure that could allow local users to obtain sensitive information about a cryptographic key.

The weakness was published 01/04/2006 by Stefan Rompf (Website). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0095. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21979 (CentOS 4 : kernel (CESA-2006:0132)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 117732 (CentOS Security Update for Kernel (CESA-2006:0132)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (24189), Tenable (21979), SecurityFocus (BID 16301†), OSVDB (22418†) and Secunia (SA18487†). Similar entry is available at VDB-28211. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
