A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Ralph Capper TinyPHPForum up to 3.499 (Forum Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the file profile.php of the component User Account. The manipulation of the argument uname with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in TinyPHPForum 3.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to create a new user account, create a new topic, or view the profile of a user account, as demonstrated via a .. (dot dot) in the uname parameter to profile.php.
The weakness was disclosed 01/05/2006 by Aliaksandr Hartsuyeu (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-0104 since 01/06/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:profile.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
