Details
A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 4.69 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file server.php. The manipulation of the argument sql with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The server.php test script in ADOdb for PHP before 4.70, as used in multiple products including (1) Mantis, (2) PostNuke, (3) Moodle, (4) Cacti, (5) Xaraya, (6) PHPOpenChat, (7) MAXdev MD-Pro, and (8) MediaBeez, when the MySQL root password is empty, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the sql parameter.
The bug was discovered 12/30/2005. The weakness was released 01/09/2006 by Andreas Sandblad with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xaraya.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-0146. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
After even before and not, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 10 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:server.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21231 (GLSA-200604-07 : Cacti: Multiple vulnerabilities in included ADOdb), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 4.70 eliminates this vulnerability.
