CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.58/6.11.5. Affected by this issue is the function smb2_set_ea of the file fs/smb/client/smb2ops.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a double free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-415. The product calls free() twice on the same memory address, potentially leading to modification of unexpected memory locations. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix possible double free in smb2_set_ea() Clang static checker(scan-build) warning: fs/smb/client/smb2ops.c:1304:2: Attempt to free released memory. 1304 | kfree(ea); | ^~~~~~~~~ There is a double free in such case: 'ea is initialized to NULL' -> 'first successful memory allocation for ea' -> 'something failed, goto sea_exit' -> 'first memory release for ea' -> 'goto replay_again' -> 'second goto sea_exit before allocate memory for ea' -> 'second memory release for ea resulted in double free'. Re-initialie 'ea' to NULL near to the replay_again label, it can fix this double free problem.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-50152 since 10/21/2024. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/21/2025).
