A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft HTML Help Workshop 4.74.8702.0. This issue affects an unknown function of the component HTML Help. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. Stack-based buffer overflow in Microsoft HTML Help Workshop 4.74.8702.0, and possibly earlier versions, and as included in the Microsoft HTML Help 1.4 SDK, allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via a .hhp file with a long Contents file field.
The bug was discovered 01/12/2009. The weakness was published 02/06/2006 by bratax as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org.
