Details
A vulnerability was found in Qualcomm Snapdragon Automobile, Snapdragon Mobile and Snapdragon Wear. It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown functionality of the component VP9 Decoding. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use of out-of-range pointer offset vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-823. The product performs pointer arithmetic on a valid pointer, but it uses an offset that can point outside of the intended range of valid memory locations for the resulting pointer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
On some hardware revisions where VP9 decoding is hardware-accelerated, the frame size is not programmed correctly into the decoder hardware which can lead to an invalid memory access by the decoder.
The advisory is available at docs.qualcomm.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-11076 since 07/07/2017. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
