Details
A vulnerability was found in Advantech EKI-6333AC-2G, EKI-6333AC-2GD and EKI-6333AC-1GPO (version now known) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function connection_profile_apply. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A CWE-78 "Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection')" was discovered affecting the following devices manufactured by Advantech: EKI-6333AC-2G (<= 1.6.3), EKI-6333AC-2GD (<= v1.6.3) and EKI-6333AC-1GPO (<= v1.2.1). The source of the vulnerability relies on multiple parameters belonging to the "connection_profile_apply" API which are not properly sanitized before being concatenated to OS level commands.
The weakness was shared by Diego Zaffaroni. The advisory is shared for download at nozominetworks.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-50362 since 10/23/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/24/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
