A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Softcomplex PHP Event Calendar up to 1.4 (Calendar Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file users.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Softcomplex PHP Event Calendar 1.5 allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML, and corrupt data, via the (1) username and (2) password parameters, which are not sanitized before being written to users.php. NOTE: while this issue was originally reported as XSS, the primary issue might be direct static code injection with resultant XSS.
The weakness was shared 02/06/2006 by Aliaksandr Hartsuyeu (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0657 since 02/13/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
It is declared as highly functional. By approaching the search of inurl:users.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 1.5 eliminates this vulnerability. It is possible to mitigate the problem by adding an authentication mechanism. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be adding authentication.
