A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel 0.99.7.0 (Operating System). This issue affects the function _unix_verify_password of the component PAM. pam_unix.so in Linux-PAM 0.99.7.0 allows context-dependent attackers to log into accounts whose password hash, as stored in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow, has only two characters.
The bug was discovered 01/23/2007. The weakness was presented 01/24/2007 by Bernardo Innocenti (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-0003 since 12/19/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
