Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in NI LabVIEW up to 22.3.3/23.3.4/24.3.1. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file fontmgr.cpp of the component VI Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper validation of specified index, position, or offset in input vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1285. The product receives input that is expected to specify an index, position, or offset into an indexable resource such as a buffer or file, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the specified index/position/offset has the required properties. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An out of bounds read due to improper input validation when loading the font table in fontmgr.cpp in NI LabVIEW may disclose information or result in arbitrary code execution. Successful exploitation requires an attacker to provide a user with a specially crafted VI. This vulnerability affects LabVIEW 2024 Q3 and prior versions.
The weakness was disclosed by Michael Heinzl. The advisory is shared for download at ni.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-10495 since 10/29/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 03/05/2025).
