Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in spatie browsershot up to 5.0.2. Affected is the function setUrl of the component URL Validation Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Versions of the package spatie/browsershot before 5.0.3 are vulnerable to Improper Input Validation due to improper URL validation through the setUrl method. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by utilizing view-source:file://, which allows for arbitrary file reading on a local file. **Note:** This is a bypass of the fix for [CVE-2024-21544](https://security.snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-PHP-SPATIEBROWSERSHOT-8496745).
