Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.11.10/6.12.1. This vulnerability affects the function ucsi_ccg_sync_control of the component USB. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: typec: fix potential array underflow in ucsi_ccg_sync_control() The "command" variable can be controlled by the user via debugfs. The worry is that if con_index is zero then "&uc->ucsi->connector[con_index - 1]" would be an array underflow.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-53203 since 11/19/2024. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/15/2025).
