Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.11.10/6.12.1. Affected is the function rtk_usb3phy_probe of the component realtek. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: phy: realtek: usb: fix NULL deref in rtk_usb3phy_probe In rtk_usb3phy_probe() devm_kzalloc() may return NULL but this returned value is not checked.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-53204 since 11/19/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.11.11 or 6.12.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
