Details
A vulnerability was found in go-git up to 5.12.x and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a argument injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component
in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the
intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
go-git is a highly extensible git implementation library written in pure Go. An argument injection vulnerability was discovered in go-git versions prior to v5.13. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to set arbitrary values to git-upload-pack flags. This only happens when the file transport protocol is being used, as that is the only protocol that shells out to git binaries. This vulnerability is fixed in 5.13.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-21613 since 12/29/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 213966 (SUSE SLES15 / openSUSE 15 Security Update : govulncheck-vulndb (SUSE-SU-2025:0060-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.13.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (213966) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0123). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
