Redis up to 7.2.6/7.4.1 ACL Selector denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Redis up to 7.2.6/7.4.1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component ACL Selector Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

Redis is an open source, in-memory database that persists on disk. An authenticated with sufficient privileges may create a malformed ACL selector which, when accessed, triggers a server panic and subsequent denial of service. The problem is fixed in Redis 7.2.7 and 7.4.2.

The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-51741 since 10/31/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 213612 (Fedora 41 : valkey (2025-b332afed45)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 7.2.7 or 7.4.2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (213612) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0017). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
