pgAgent up to 4.2.2 generation of predictable numbers or identifiers

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in pgAgent up to 4.2.2. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a generation of predictable numbers or identifiers vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-340. The product uses a scheme that generates numbers or identifiers that are more predictable than required. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

When batch jobs are executed by pgAgent, a script is created in a temporary directory and then executed. In versions of pgAgent prior to 4.2.3, an insufficiently seeded random number generator is used when generating the directory name, leading to the possibility for a local attacker to pre-create the directory and thus prevent pgAgent from executing jobs, disrupting scheduled tasks.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-0218 since 01/04/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 230794 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-0218), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
