A vulnerability was found in OpenDDS DDS (unknown version). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function PKCS7_verify. The product does not verify, or incorrectly verifies, the cryptographic signature for data. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
An attacker can arbitrarily craft malicious DDS Participants (or ROS 2 Nodes) with valid certificates to compromise and get full control of the attacked secure DDS databus system by exploiting vulnerable attributes in the configuration of PKCS#7 certificate’s validation. This is caused by a non-compliant implementation of permission document verification used by some DDS vendors. Specifically, an improper use of the OpenSSL PKCS7_verify function used to validate S/MIME signatures.
The weakness was disclosed by Amrc-benmorrow. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-24012 since 01/20/2023. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
