A vulnerability was found in Vaultwarden up to 1.32.5. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component E-Mail Message Handler. The manipulation of the argument username with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
An HTML injection vulnerability in Vaultwarden prior to v1.32.5 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via injecting a crafted payload into the username field of an e-mail message.
The advisory is shared for download at insinuator.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-55224 since 12/06/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
