Linux Kernel up to 6.6.67/6.12.6 v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation of the argument v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/smc: check v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt when receiving proposal msg When receiving proposal msg in server, the fields v2_ext_offset/ eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt in proposal msg are from the remote client and can not be fully trusted. Especially the field v2_ext_offset, once exceed the max value, there has the chance to access wrong address, and crash may happen. This patch checks the fields v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt before using them.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-49568 since 01/11/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
