Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.173/6.1.119/6.6.65/6.12.4. Affected by this issue is the function hci_dma_irq_handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i3c: mipi-i3c-hci: Mask ring interrupts before ring stop request Bus cleanup path in DMA mode may trigger a RING_OP_STAT interrupt when the ring is being stopped. Depending on timing between ring stop request completion, interrupt handler removal and code execution this may lead to a NULL pointer dereference in hci_dma_irq_handler() if it gets to run after the io_data pointer is set to NULL in hci_dma_cleanup(). Prevent this my masking the ring interrupts before ring stop request.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-45828 since 01/09/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 214901 (SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:0289-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.15.174, 6.1.120, 6.6.66 or 6.12.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
