Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.4. Affected is the function igb_init_module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: igb: Fix potential invalid memory access in igb_init_module() The pci_register_driver() can fail and when this happened, the dca_notifier needs to be unregistered, otherwise the dca_notifier can be called when igb fails to install, resulting to invalid memory access.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-52332 since 01/09/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/25/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 216454 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:0565-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.4.287, 5.10.231, 5.15.174, 6.1.120, 6.6.66 or 6.12.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
