Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.8. Affected is the function siw_query_port. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/siw: Remove direct link to net_device Do not manage a per device direct link to net_device. Rely on associated ib_devices net_device management, not doubling the effort locally. A badly managed local link to net_device was causing a 'KASAN: slab-use-after-free' exception during siw_query_port() call.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-57857 since 01/15/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack.
