It is advisable to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.8 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function uverbs_request_next_ptr. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/uverbs: Prevent integer overflow issue In the expression "cmd.wqe_size * cmd.wr_count", both variables are u32 values that come from the user so the multiplication can lead to integer wrapping. Then we pass the result to uverbs_request_next_ptr() which also could potentially wrap. The "cmd.sge_count * sizeof(struct ib_uverbs_sge)" multiplication can also overflow on 32bit systems although it's fine on 64bit systems. This patch does two things. First, I've re-arranged the condition in uverbs_request_next_ptr() so that the use controlled variable "len" is on one side of the comparison by itself without any math. Then I've modified all the callers to use size_mul() for the multiplications.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2024-57890 since 01/11/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 03/09/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.4.289, 5.10.233, 5.15.176, 6.1.124, 6.6.70 or 6.12.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c57721b24bd897338a81a0ca5fff41600f0f1ad1/42a6eb4ed7a9a41ba0b83eb0c7e0225b5fca5608/c2f961c46ea0e5274c5c320d007c2dd949cf627a/346db03e9926ab7117ed9bf19665699c037c773c/b92667f755749cf10d9ef1088865c555ae83ffb7/b3ef4ae713360501182695dd47d6b4f6e1a43eb8/d0257e089d1bbd35c69b6c97ff73e3690ab149a9 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (216454) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0105). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
