CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Sherzod Ruzmetov Cgi Session 4.03-1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function CGI::Session. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. This could allow an attacker to cause the product to operate on unauthorized files. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

CGI::Session 4.03-1 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on temporary files used by (1) Driver::File, (2) Driver::db_file, and possibly (3) Driver::sqlite.

The weakness was presented 03/12/2006 by Joey Hess with Debian (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1279 since 03/18/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (25285), SecurityFocus (BID 17177†), OSVDB (23865†) and Secunia (SA19211†). See VDB-29249 and VDB-83582 for similar entries. VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
