Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in SunGrow WiNet up to 200.001.00.P027. Affected is an unknown function of the component MQTT Credential Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a channel accessible vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-300. The product does not adequately verify the identity of actors at both ends of a communication channel, or does not adequately ensure the integrity of the channel, in a way that allows the channel to be accessed or influenced by an actor that is not an endpoint. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:
SunGrow WiNet-SV200.001.00.P027 and earlier versions contains hardcoded MQTT credentials that allow an attacker to send arbitrary commands to an arbitrary inverter. It is also possible to impersonate the broker, because TLS is not used to identify the real MQTT broker. This means that MQTT communications are vulnerable to MitM attacks at the TCP/IP level.
The advisory is shared for download at en.sungrowpower.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-50692 since 10/28/2024. The exploitability is told to be difficult. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1557.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
