Details
A vulnerability was found in shazahm1hotmailcom Connections Business Directory Plugin up to 10.4.66 on WordPress. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The Connections Business Directory plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary directory deletion due to insufficient file path validation when deleting a connections image directory in all versions up to, and including, 10.4.66. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Administrator-level access and above, to delete arbitrary folders on the server and all their content.
The weakness was presented by Vincent Fourcade. The advisory is shared at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-12885 since 12/20/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
