Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in paultgoodchild iControlWP Plugin up to 4.4.5 on WordPress. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument reqpars with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The iControlWP – Multiple WordPress Site Manager plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection in all versions up to, and including, 4.4.5 via deserialization of untrusted input from the reqpars parameter. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable software, which means this vulnerability has no impact unless another plugin or theme containing a POP chain is installed on the site. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it may allow the attacker to perform actions like delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code depending on the POP chain present.

The weakness was published by Krzysztof Zając. The advisory is available at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-13742 since 01/27/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/30/2025).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
