Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in KGB Archiver up to 1.1.5.21. This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in KGB Archiver before 1.1.5.22 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files wile decompressing an archive, possibly due to directory traversal sequences in a filename.
The weakness was presented 04/04/2006 by Joxean Koret (Website). The advisory is shared at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-1611 since 04/04/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 1.1.5.22 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (25606), SecurityFocus (BID 17363†) and Secunia (SA19511†). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
