A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Data Access Components. Unspecified vulnerability in the RDS.Dataspace ActiveX control, which is contained in ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) and distributed in Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 and 2.8, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unknown attack vectors.
The bug was discovered 04/11/2006. The weakness was presented 04/11/2006 by Golan Yosef, Stefano Meller and Mirko Gatto (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0003 since 11/09/2005. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in Python and been published 4 months after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
