Details
A vulnerability was found in Mattermost up to 9.11.7/10.2.2/10.3.2/10.4.1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Block Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Mattermost versions 10.4.x <= 10.4.1, 9.11.x <= 9.11.7, 10.3.x <= 10.3.2, 10.2.x <= 10.2.2 fail to properly validate input when patching and duplicating a board, which allows a user to read any arbitrary file on the system via duplicating a specially crafted block in Boards.
The weakness was published by visat. The advisory is shared for download at mattermost.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-20051 since 02/18/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy.
