A vulnerability was found in MODX CMS 0.9.1 (Content Management System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument id with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in index.php in ModX 0.9.1 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) sequence and trailing NULL (%00) byte in the id parameter.

The weakness was presented 04/18/2006 (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1821 since 04/17/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy.
