Linux Kernel up to 5.18.2 random values

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.18.2. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a random values vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-330. The product uses insufficiently random numbers or values in a security context that depends on unpredictable numbers. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hfi1: Fix potential integer multiplication overflow errors When multiplying of different types, an overflow is possible even when storing the result in a larger type. This is because the conversion is done after the multiplication. So arithmetic overflow and thus in incorrect value is possible. Correct an instance of this in the inter packet delay calculation. Fix by ensuring one of the operands is u64 which will promote the other to u64 as well ensuring no overflow.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-49404 since 02/26/2025. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.001.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234545 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:1293-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 4.9.318, 4.14.283, 4.19.247, 5.4.198, 5.10.121, 5.15.46, 5.17.14 or 5.18.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 252f4afd4557a2e7075f793a5c80fe6dd9e9ee4a/a89cb7ddf6a89bab6012e19da38b7cdb26175c19/79c164e61f818054cd6012e9035701840d895c51/8858284dd74906fa00f04f0252c75df4893a7959/31dca00d0cc9f4133320d72eb7e3720badc6d6e6/3f09ec80f115d2875d747ed28adc1773037e0f8b/06039d8afefdbac05bcea5f397188407eba2996d/ef5ab2e48a5f9960e2352332b7cdb7064bb49032/f93e91a0372c922c20d5bee260b0f43b4b8a1bee is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
